Man guts wife in front of daughter

MANILA, Philippines - A jealous man killed his wife on her birthday, stabbing her repeatedly until her intestines spilled out in front of their daughter Thursday night, police said yesterday.

After attacking his wife, Ariel Berdigon, 41, slit his wrist to commit suicide. He survived and is confined at the East Avenue Medical Center.

Police Officer 3 Johnny Mahilum said Berdigon admitted killing his wife Bernadeth, 31, after learning that she was allegedly having an affair with another man.

The killing happened at past 7 p.m. in the couple’s house in Barangay South Triangle, Quezon City.

According to Mahilum, the couple’s 15-year-old daughter said her mother went to her school at around 5 p.m. to treat her to dinner to celebrate her birthday.

When they arrived home at around 7:30 p.m., the girl said they saw her father waiting for them in front of the door. He blocked his wife, prompting the girl to come to her mother’s aid.

She said they were able to enter the house, but her father followed them. The couple had a heated argument, which ended when Berdigon pulled out a knife and attacked his wife. Bernadeth was declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
