Highway cops warn vs speeding on rainy days

- Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe -

MANILA, Philippines -  Officials of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) called yesterday on motorists to drive carefully during rainy days after a passenger bus fell 40 feet from the Skyway in Parañaque City yesterday.

“Despite the absence of traffic, motorists should remember to drive carefully. It will be dangerous to drive on slippery roads,” said HPG spokesman Superintendent Edwin Butacan.

Butacan noted that many motorists are encouraged to drive at higher speeds on the Skyway due to absence of vehicular traffic, but they do not realize they risk falling from the elevated expressway.

He said the spot where the bus fell from the Skyway was accident-prone since it was a curved portion of the elevated highway.

The HPG spokesman said the Skyway, South Luzon Expressway and North Luzon Expressway have speed limits of 100 kilometers per hour.
