US diplomat, Navy man figure in motorbike mishap

MANILA, Philippines - An American diplomat and a Navy lieutenant figured in a road accident in front of the Southern Police District headquarters in Taguig City Sunday night.

Senior Superintendent Tomas Apolinario Jr., city police chief, said Allan Holmes, political officer at the US embassy, was driving a black BMW motorcycle when he hit 2nd Navy Lt. Wyler Urmaneta’s yellow Honda wave motorcycle at about 6 p.m.

Senior Inspector Ferdinand Lipata, Taguig police traffic unit chief, said Urmaneta and his female companion, Jorinda Padoga, fell off their motorcycle from the impact. Holmes was unhurt, while Urmaneta injured his left leg. Padoga remains confined at the Naval Hospita as of yesterday afternoon, Lipata said.

He added that both parties are still trying to settle the issue.
