MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim yesterday reiterated his directive for the arrest and immediate filing of charges against those selling pirated discs in any part of the city.
Lim renewed his campaign against the sale of pirated discs as the Optical Media Board headed by chairman Ronnie Ricketts presented him a plaque of appreciation for his “valuable contribution and commitment” in the OMB’s campaign against all forms of piracy.
Lim directed the police to arrest anyone who continue to sell pirated discs, despite the ban imposed on the sale of such items since July 1. He said he has been receiving reports that some unscrupulous traders sell pirated discs in an “underground manner.”
He also warned owners of stalls or buildings against conniving with those vendors. He said even malls are not spared from the ban for as long as they are located in Manila.
Ricketts meanwhile lauded Lim, saying his efforts are being emulated by other mayors who have also expressed willingness to assist the OMB in its anti-piracy campaign. He also thanked Lim for ordering Manila policemen to extend their full assistance should the OMB need it.
