Pinay rape victim to pursue case vs 3 Saudi men

MANILA, Philippines - A Filipina in Saudi Arabia will pursue a case against three Saudi men who allegedly raped her while she was pregnant, according to an embassy report.

The Philippine embassy in Riyadh reported to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) that the embassy received a report that the perpetrators were all arrested.

Undersecretary for migrant workers affairs Esteban Conejos said Friday that the woman, who gave birth Wednesday, will identify the suspects in a police line-up and prosecution of the case will commence, officials said. Conejos said a lawyer has been hired for her and the DFA “will not stop in assisting her until justice is served.”

The embassy said in its report that the Filipina was walking back to her accommodation from a check-up at the General Case Hospital in Dammam last July 7 when a car stopped and the driver called her attention asking if she worked for a certain company.

Thinking that it was her car service, she got in the car but was surprised to see that there was another man seated behind her. The driver went to an isolated area, where she was raped. The Filipina was also robbed of her mobile phone and money.

After the rape, the woman was dropped near the Carrefour Mall, where she was able to get the help of Filipinos who were there.
