Pasay firefight leads to stolen car
MANILA, Philippines - A shootout that ensued between a group of suspected carjackers and the Pasay City police Thursday afternoon led to the recovery of a car stolen in San Pedro, Laguna last week.
Chief Inspector Raymund Liguden, head of Pasay City police’s investigation division, said their police officers were on patrol at about 4 p.m. when they chanced upon a “suspicious” group six men with short firearms boarding a maroon Honda CRV (XKH-503) along M. de la Cruz street.
Liguden said the lawmen followed the vehicle until it reached nearby Tolentino street. The police officers approached the CRV but its passengers started shooting, then fled on foot in different directions.
One of the suspects, identified only as Dagul, was hit in the “hip or right leg” but the police failed to catch him, added Liguden.
When the vehicle was checked, police found out that it belonged to Lorenzo Lungca of Muntinlupa City. The car was stolen in San Pedro, Laguna on July 7.
Liguden said an informant told them that the men they chased are members of the Jorge Manlangit Cariaga group, all of whom used to belong to the Onad carjacking syndicate.
