QCPD sets sights on 3 more carjack gangs
MANILA, Philippines - While the remaining members of the carjacking group allegedly led by the Dominguez brothers are tagged in the killing of government employee Teresita Teaño last month, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said it is also closely monitoring three other gangs whose activities must be stopped.
“We are bent on locating and arresting the members of these groups,” QCPD director Chief Superintendent George Regis said in a press conference last week announcing the filing of charges in connection with Teaño’s killing.
According to Regis, these groups stage hits in different places in Metro Manila “to raise fund to post bail” for their jailed members, and one of their “playgrounds” is Quezon City.
These include the “Onad group,” he said. Some members of this gang have been arrested but were able to post bail. Regis said the gang started with burglary and robbery before venturing into carjacking.
Another gang is allegedly led by Francis Briones, who Regis said posted bail worth P600,000.
There is also a gang allegedly led by Edong Maglalang, who targets Mitsubishi vans, Regis said.
He added that Maglalang is reportedly also into hijacking vehicles and stealing parked motorcycles.
The QCPD has filed a case for car theft and murder against Rolando Talban and an unidentified carjacker before the fiscal.
Talban, alias Eduardo Fernandez, is being hunted for allegedly shooting Teaño in a carjacking in Kamuning last June.
He also faces charges of car theft with homicide, along with Raymond and Roger Dominguez, before a court for the abduction and killing of Venson Evangelista. The court has issued an arrest warrant against Talban, who remains at large. They were implicated by Alfred Mendiola, another accused in the case, who pointed to Talban as the gunman who allegedly shot Evangelista.
