MANILA, Philippines - A Muntinlupa City police officer who responded to a reported shooting alone died after two men shot him in the chest along the Alabang Viaduct at past midnight yesterday.
Police Officer 1 Alvin Ammak of the city Police Community Precinct 2 was pronounced dead by a physician of the Alabang Medical Clinic, according to local police chief Superintendent Eleazar Matta.
Barangay Alabang police Dalmacio Espinas told investigators that Ammak was on foot patrol when he noticed Lancillop Padulle being beaten and shot by on the Montillano Bridge at about 1:25 a.m.
Ammak “immediately responded to verify the incident, and although outnumbered, he single-handedly engaged the suspects in a gunfight,” a separate police report signed by Matta read.
Padulle, who was shot in the cheek, has yet to give a statement and is still under observation at the Ospital ng Muntinlupa. Espinas said before the shootout, the victim reportedly had some “trouble” at the Evelyn Videoke Bar.
Ammak’s death came a week after a Makati City police’s anti-drug unit enforcer PO2 Victoriano Cruz was killed while rendering assistance to two quarreling men. Like Ammak, Cruz responded to the crime scene alone.
Police are going after Ammak’s killers, who reportedly fled toward Southern Luzon, said Chief Inspector Jenny Tecson, spokesperson of the Southern Police District. Both Muntinlupa and Makati are under the SPD.
