Noy asked to transfer Rolito Go to penal colony
MANILA, Philippines - The family of road rage victim Eldon Maguan asked President Aquino yesterday to transfer convicted murderer Rolito Go to the Iwahig penal colony in Palawan following reports that he and several other inmates have returned to their special cubicles at the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.
Rosario Maguan, Eldon’s mother, said they were informed over the weekend that Go returned to his “kubo” or hut at the back of Ina ng Awa Parish within the NBP reservation several days after the Department of Justice stopped dismantling these structures in the NBP last month. He was placed in the minimum security camp in March 2008.
Go was convicted for killing Eldon during a minor traffic incident in 1991 in Greenhills, San Juan.
Rosario alleged that Go can stay in his hut and use cell phones in jail because “has influence over jail guards and officials of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) because many officials owe his lending business money.”
Inspector Eugene Ciruela, deputy chief of BuCor special investigation team, confirmed that Go frequently leaves the compound and goes to his lending business in Muntinlupa – just 100 meters away from the NBP compound – instead of going to the hospital.
Aside from Go, Rosario said at least 20 convicted Chinese drug lords are also again receiving special treatment after Justice Secretary Leila de Lima stopped the dismantling the huts last month.
