Uncle stabs birthday boy

MANILA, Philippines - A 29-year-old man celebrating his birthday was stabbed dead by his uncle in a confrontation Sunday night in Caloocan City.

Michael Garcia of Green Valley street in Barangay 178, Camarin died while being treated for three stab wounds in the chest at the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Hospital in Tala.

Garcia’s uncle, Arnold Rollo, 41, a neighbor of the victim, surrendered to the police after the stabbing.

Senior Police Officer 2 Joselito de los Reyes said Rollo reportedly scolded his nephew, Angelito Garcia Jr., the victim’s younger brother, outside his house at around 5:30 p.m.

Rollo’s sister and the victim’s mother, Olive Garcia, 46, tried to pacify Rollo and lead Angelito, her other son, away.

At around 11:30 p.m., Angelito went to his brother Michael’s birthday party and told him about Rollo scolding him in public. Rollo learned about it and rushed to the victim’s house.

Michael turned to his uncle to ask him what really happened, but Rollo stabbed him. Police are preparing to file homicide charges against Rollo.
