2 robbery suspects in Navotas City arrested

MANILA, Philippines -  Two suspected members of a hold-up gang preying on students were arrested after robbing a college student Tuesday night in Navotas City.

Orlando Castillo, 19, and Rikili Mercado, 19, both of Barangay North Bay Boulevard South were also charged with robbery. Records showed the victim Monaliza Regachuelo was walking along Bangus street at 11 p.m. when the suspects approached him and poked a knife at her side and grabbed her bag.

Regachuelo resisted and the commotion was seen by roving village watchmen who quickly responded. The suspects tried to evade arrest but were quickly cornered by barangay tanods. Authorities seized two kitchen knives from the suspects.
