MANILA, Philippines - A 27-year-old woman was beaten to death by her former lover after the victim reportedly refused to reconcile with him in Sampaloc, Manila yesterday.
Police said Mercy Jontilla, who was beaten black and blue, was sent home after receiving treatment at the Ospital ng Sampaloc Sunday night. However, at past midnight yesterday the victim was overheard by her current live-in partner Jerry Cayabyab moaning and having seizures. She was rushed back at the same hospital where she died of massive internal injuries.
Senior Police Officer 2 Edmundo Cabal said that on Monday night, a certain Larry, the victim’s former lover, went to her house along Miguelin street in Sampaloc armed with a gun. The victim reportedly advised Cayabyab to leave the house and that she would talk it over with her former lover, a jeepney driver plying the Lardizabal-Tayuman route.
Moments later, a neighbor of the victim, village councilman Gerardo Bertillo, overheard a commotion in the victim’s house. After several minutes, Bertillo decided to check on the victim, and he found her lying unconscious on the floor.
Police launched a massive manhunt against the suspect who reportedly left his house after the attack.
