Doctors, nurses save OFW's life at NAIA

- Rudy Santos -

Manila, Philippines - Doctors and nurses on duty at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 saved the life of a Dubai-bound overseas Filipino worker (OFW), who suffered a heart attack and collapsed at the departure area Saturday night.

Noel Malicay was lying unconscious, with zero blood pressure and pulse rate, when he was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation by doctors Ramon Apostol and Ma. Theresa Azores, assisted by nurse Reymond Santos. When they failed to revive him, they used a defibrillator on him six times until his pulse rate went up to 123 per minute. They then brought him to the San Juan de Dios Hospital for confinement.

Apostol and Azores said that Malicay suffered cardiac arrest secondary to cardiac arrythmia, which caused him to lose consciousness.
