Manila, Philippines - Two suspected carjackers were arrested by police while reportedly casing prospective victims in Tondo, Manila at past midnight yesterday.
Manila Police District director Chief Superintendent Roberto Rongavilla said Markbon Raguso, 23, and John Lerry Deduque, 21, were cruising on motorcycles along Zamora street when a police patrol team from the Jose Abad Santos station noticed that they were not wearing helmets.
Police officers flagged down the two motorcyclists, who were driving without licenses. Deduque also yielded an unlicensed .40 caliber pistol.
Jose Abad Santos police station chief Superintendent Ernesto Barlam found out that the motorcycle driven by Raguso was carjacked in Valenzuela City last May 3.
Rongavilla directed Barlam to check if the two suspects were involved in carjackings in Tondo, particularly of motorcycles.
The two were initially charged with driving without a license, violation of the helmet law, illegal possession of firearm and violation of the law on carjacking and car theft.
