Makati sets up 'photo' checkpoints vs motorbike-riding assassins

- Mike Frialde -

MANILA, Philippines - The Makati City police will start today its “Oplan Photo Sita” checkpoint project to prevent fatal shootings carried out by assassins on motorcycles.

City police chief Senior Superintendent Froilan Bonifacio said policemen manning the checkpoints will stop motorcyclists, perform routine security checks, photograph the motorcycle’s license plates, then attach a security information sticker to the plate.

“The photograph and sticker will help us quickly identify the registered owner of the motorcycle should it be involved in a crime within the city,” he said.

The city police has prepared at least 200 stickers to be used in the “Photo Sita” checkpoints. Bonifacio said the P.J. Lhuillier Group of Companies will donate the digital cameras.

The checkpoints were set up following the fatal shooting of Development Bank of the Philippines employee Roldan Hernandez in February by motorcycle-riding assassins.
