MANILA, Philippines - To celebrate Independence Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hold today a job fair at the Rizal Park in Manila, where around 30,000 employment opportunities here and abroad are up for grabs.
According to DOLE director for Labor Communication Nicon Fameronag, the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines are among the 113 employers that joined the “2011 Kalayaan Job Fair,” which will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
DOLE acting Secretary Danilo Cruz said the event “affirms the heightened partnership among government, industry, and other sectors in generating more job opportunities to ensure workers’ employability and productivity.”
“The celebration of the nation’s independence is also a timely occasion for the DOLE to unchain the jobless from the shackles of unemployment by facilitating workers’ and employers’ search for jobs and skills through the job fair, and subsequently contribute to inclusive economic growth,” he added.
Cruz added the job fair is part of DOLE’s efforts to exhaust all means to provide job opportunities for everyone.
To help jobseekers submit documents required by prospective employers, representatives from the Professional Regulation Commission, Philippine Health Insurance Corp., National Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Internal Revenue are available to provide pre-employment documentation services.
Cruz added that the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority will also give free haircuts and massages while the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines will conduct a skills demonstration.
