Caloocan fun run to mark city's 50th year
MANILA, Philippines - The Caloocan City government wil reroute a portion of MacArthur Highway and the Monumento area to give way to the city’s Independence Day run for neglected children.
Mayor Enrico Echiverri said that the fun run will start at 4:30 a.m. along C-3 Road and end on Samson Road in Monumento. He said the Independence Day celebration in Caloocan will be a historic one because it would also kick off the countdown for the city’s 50th founding anniversary on Feb. 16 next year.
Motorists coming from Valenzuela City are advised to counter-flow toward the Bonifacio Monumento Circle (BMC) en route to EDSA as a portion of the highway will be closed to traffic.
Vehicles coming from Malabon City on the way to BMC must turn right on A. Mabini street and Heroes del ’96 while those coming from Manila going to Monumento must turn right on 8th Avenue, 9th Avenue or 10th Avenue then left on B. Serrano to EDSA.
The mayor is urging residents and running enthusiasts to join the event by registering at the local sports department for only P50. He said proceeds from the fun run would go to the Yakap Bata Holding Center, which houses neglected and abused kids. Registration ends today.
