Manila, Philippines - A 50-year-old American man died after suffering a reported heart attack in an air-conditioned bus in Makati City Friday night.
Case investigator Police Officer 3 Jason David said Dennis Wethly, a resident of Bacoor, Cavite, boarded a Baclaran-bound Kellen Transit bus at the corner of EDSA and Boni Avenue at about 10:20 p.m.
When the bus reached Ayala Avenue, police said Wethly complained of chest pains and difficulty breathing and asked bus conductor Arnulfo Baure for help,.
Baure called the attention of a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority rescue crew, who rushed Wethly to the Makati Medical Center. Doctors tried to revive Wethly but he died at about 1:14 a.m. yesterday, police said.
The Makati police is coordinating with the United States embassy regarding the case.
Police said Wethly had been living in the country for the past 10 years and reportedly received a pension from the United States.
