No Facebook, Twitter for Manila city hall employees

- Sandy Araneta -

MANILA, Philippines -  Manila city hall employees are banned from accessing social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, including gaming websites on the Internet during office hours.

In a memorandum to department, bureau and office heads and city hall employees, City Administrator Jesus Mari Marzan said “such games and other irrelevant applications will be disconnected, uninstalled and strictly monitored.”

Marzan also directed the Electronic Data Processing Services (EDPS) all computers installed at the city hall.

He said the Internet access in the city hall has slowed down because employees, instead of attending to their jobs, are preoccupied with their Facebook or Twitter accounts, if not playing games or watching movies in the Internet.

“These are all counterproductive as they deprive the city and its constituents of genuine public service,” Marzan said.
