Maynilad president's staff undergo lie detector test

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - Police are subjecting the household staff of Maynilad Water Services Inc. president Victorico Vargas to a lie detector test to determine if they were involved in a break-in at his house in Quezon City, in which he lost P15 million in cash and valuables.

A female housemaid and two male helpers were left behind in Vargas’ Ayala Heights Subdivision house when he went on a trip last May 12 and his wife followed a couple of days after.

“There is a possibility that the robbery was well planned,” said Chief Inspector Rodel Marcelo of theft and robbery investigation section of the Quezon City Police District.

According to Marcelo, they are trying to determine if the burglary was an inside job. He said the subdivision has strict security measures when it comes to the people going in and out of the subdivision.

He said the burglars brought a pick from the back of the house in order to destroy the safety vault in the master bedroom. “How come that the (burglars) will bring the pick if they don’t know what’s inside the room?” Marcelo said. Vargas discovered the theft when he returned from his trip on May 22.
