MANILA, Philippines - A 24-year-old gym instructor’s unusual hobby was discovered Wednesday night when he was mistaken for a shoplifter while taking an “upskirt” video of a woman on a mall escalator in Quezon City.
Superintendent Audie Madrideo, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 2, said some of the videos found in the gym instructor’s cell phone were taken as far back as November last year.
“There were folders in the phone’s memory that contained videos of three different women taken in one single day,” Madrideo told The STAR in an interview.
Madrideo said the man allegedly did it again on Wednesday night but while he was at it, a mall security guard noticed his actions. Thinking he might be a shoplifter, the guard accosted him and brought him to the police station after finding his camera phone turned on.
At the police station, the 32-year-old woman called up her boyfriend, who turned out to be also a gym instructor and a co-worker of the “filmmaker” at the same mall.
The parents of the gym instructor and his victim arrived at a financial settlement. No charges were filed.
