6 eyed in Caloocan professor's slay
Manila, Philippines - Police are focusing their investigation on at least six suspects in the murder of a university professor at his rented apartment Tuesday night in Caloocan City.
Chief Inspector Rodrigo Soriano, Caloocan City police investigation chief, said yesterday they have already invited three of the six suspects in the killing of a 47-year-old professor Jose Calalung Jr. but are still searching for three others.
Soriano said one of the suspects they have yet to invite is known as a “close friend” of the victim.
He said investigators have taken fingerprint and semen samples for comparison to those taken from the crime scene. The examination results were not yet available yesterday.
Calalung was found dead with multiple stab wounds in the chest and back by a friend at his rented apartment in Brixtonville Subdivision. There was no sign of forced entry.
Soriano said Calalung’s killers “arranged” the victim’s body on his bed to look like he was just sleeping, before escaping with his laptop and two cell phones. “The crime could not be done by only one suspect,” Soriano said.
Calalung was a former professor at the University of Caloocan City but resigned in 2008 and was reportedly teaching in a private school when he was killed.
