Marikina aims for world record on mass circumcision

- Non Alquitran -

Manila, Philippines - The Marikina City government wants to set a world record for the most number of circumcisions or “tuli” done during a single event on May 7, an official said yesterday.

The mass circumcision, dubbed the “T-Party,” will be held at the Marikina Sports Park from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Health officials are targeting 1,500 males aged 12 and above to participate in the event, according to Paul Sison, head of the city’s public information office.

The Guinness Book of World Records maintains no official record for mass circumcision.

Mayor Del de Guzman is inviting all qualified residents to avail themselves of the procedure since it is free.

“We will offer the same kind of service the private clinics would do, and so we are encouraging our young male residents to join our T-Party and be part of this momentous event,” De Guzman said.

To make the project successful, Sison said the city government will tap the services of medical practitioners and nursing students.

According to City Health Office chief Dr. Alberto Herrera, the CHO regularly conducts circumcision projects, but this citywide event is the first ever in the city.

To join the event, Herrera advised male participants and their parent or guardian to visit the nearest barangay health center on or before May 6 for screening.
