Jeepney barker shot dead in Pasig

- Non Alquitran -

MANILA, Philippines - A jeepney barker was shot dead by a lone gunman in front of horrified passengers and onlookers in Pasig City Tuesday.

Diosdado Maningas, alias Lindol, of No. 254 West Bank Road, Floodway in Barangay Rosario, sustained three gunshot wounds in the head. He died on the spot.

Senior Superintendent Jesse Cardona, Pasig City police chief, said the suspect casually walked away from the crime scene, while pointing his firearm at bystanders to prevent them from intercepting him.

Cardona said Maningas was doing his job in the corner of Jenny Avenue, and West Bank Road when the gunman tapped his shoulders at about 9 p.m. Tuesday. When Maningas turned to see who it was, the gunman opened fire twice hitting him in the left ear, the bullet exiting in his face.

Maningas fell to the ground bleeding. The suspect opened fire at his left chest apparently to finish him off.

Prior to the shooting incident, witnesses saw the suspect disembarking from a passenger jeepney plying the Marikina-Floodway route.

PO3 Rolando Lipana, case investigator, said witnesses described the suspect as wearing a green polo shirt, and short pants and wearing a black bull cap apparently to hide his face.

Elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) of the Eastern Police District recovered three empty shells and a deformed slug from a caliber 9mm pistol in the crime scene.

Lipana said the victim’s wife claimed that Maningas has no known enemies.
