55 Pinoys flee Japan's nuke plant zone

- Rudy Santos -

Manila, Philippines - Fifty-five Filipinos, including children, who live within a 100-kilometer radius of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant are expected to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Sunday on board a Philippine Airlines flight from Narita.

Many of at least 2,000 Filipinos are long-term residents in Fukushima as spouses of Japanese citizens.

The Philippine embassy identified Omiya in Saitama prefecture as a rendezvous area for Filipinos interested in being repatriated. The Department of Foreign Affairs said these Filipinos will undergo health and radiation screening at facilities run by the Japanese government prior to their departure on Sunday.
