Indian girl kills self after parents' scolding

MANILA, Philippines -  A 14-year-old Indian girl committed suicide by drinking silver cleaning solution after being scolded by her parents Monday night.

Police said Shabangi Singh Jierh died at the Mary Johnston Hospital.

Police said the victim was scolded by her parents after she arrived at their house along Quezon street in Tondo. The girl proceeded to the kitchen, took something from the cabinet and locked herself in the bathroom.

Her family heard a loud thud, forced the bathroom door open, and found her on the floor with her mouth frothing.

In another incident, a 31-year-old jobless man shot himself in the head with an improvised shotgun after a bitter quarrel with his live-in partner in San Andres Bukid, Manila Monday night.

Marlon Valenzona died in front of his house at the corner of Oro B and Zobel streets. Police recovered an improvised shotgun beside the victim.
