Toughie shot dead in Tondo

- Nestor Etolle -

Manila, Philippines - A 27-year-old toughie was killed in a gangland-style execution in Tondo, Manila Friday night.

Police said Roberto Melgarejo, alias “Tata,” a member of the jailhouse gang “Batang City Jail,” was shot by three persons riding on two motorcycles while he was walking home with his sister and live-in partner along an alley at around 8:30 p.m.

The victim was declared dead on arrival at the Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital due to several gunshot wounds in the body.

The victim’s two companions failed to get the license plates of the motorcycles, but pointed to “Makmak Sumpak” and “Jay-R Gutierrez” as the possible culprits in the killing.

“There are reports that the suspects had an axe to grind against the victim due to his double-crossing ways,” said Inspector Armando Macaraeg, who heads the homicide section of the Manila Police District.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects.
