Cops nab motorbike-riding robbery suspect in Makati
MANILA, Philippines - Makati City police arrested a man who reportedly snatched a female accountant’s shoulderbag along Hippodromo street in Barangay Carmona, Makati City before dawn yesterday.
Police Officer 3 Rickymel Corpuz said victim Mary Anne Castillo was walking home with a group of friends at around 2:30 a.m. when suspect Mark Aaron Mijares, 20, and a companion – later identified as Alvin Avino – used a motorcycle (PE-4039) to approach Castillo and grab her handbag, which contained her cell phone and other valuables.
Police officers on patrol saw the commotion and pursued the suspects. During the chase, Corpuz said the suspects lost control of the motorcycle. He said the lawmen arrested Mijares while Avino, who reportedly took Castillo’s bag, escaped.
Police confiscated a fan knife from Mijares, who is detained at the Makati police’s criminal investigation division while robbery and possession of a deadly weapon charges are being readied against him.
Police are waiting for persons who may have been victims of Mijares and Avino to come to the station and press charges.
