MANILA, Philippines - Three boys were arrested yesterday for allegedly killing a 19-year-old member of a rival gang when the two groups clashed in Sampaloc, Manila Sunday night.
Inspector Armando Macaraeg said Henry Carpio, 19, a member of the “Istomo Youngsters,” died of a gunshot wound while being treated at the UST Hospital.
The suspects, members of the “Loyola and Marquitos Hood Gang,” were arrested by Macaraeg, who heads the Manila Police District homicide section, and his team.
Two of the three admitted joining in the street riot, but pointed to the 17-year-old suspect as the one who fired an improvised shotgun that killed Carpio.
Macaraeg said 30 members of the suspects’ gang boarded seven tricycles and attacked their rivals, who were gathered at the Plaza Noli in Sampaloc. A parked Toyota Hi-Ace van (RCG-158) also sustained six bullet holes.
Residents said the two gangs clashed practically every night, but no police officers are seen patrolling the area.
“We are calling on Sampaloc police station chief Superintendent Jomar Modequillo to use his authority to put an end to this worsening gang clashes or more lives will be endangered,” the residents said.
