QC to shut down 2 public schools built on fault line

- Rhodina Villanueva -

MANILA, Philippines –  Mayor Herbert Bautista is recommending the closure of two public schools in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Quezon City that are reportedly sitting on top of a fault line.

He said that with the schoolyear almost over, the city government has time to look for alternative sites once the closure order for the Bagong Silangan Elementary and High Schools takes effect. The two schools have a combined population of about 11,000.

A Metro Manila earthquake impact reduction study earlier found that Marikina, Quezon City, Pasig, Makati, Pateros, Taguig and Muntinlupa will be the most affected if the West Valley fault moves.
