15,000 illegal logs nasabat

MANILA, Philippines - Mahigit sa 15,000 “board feet” na kahoy na hinihinalang galing sa illegal logging ang nasabat ng pinagsanib na pwersa ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Bureau of Customs at Philippine Coast Guard sa Manila South Harbour, kahapon ng hapon.

Sa inisyal na ulat ni PCG-Manila Station chief, Commander Gregorio Ilagan Adel Junior, tinatayang nasa P600,000 ang halaga ng Lawaan wood na pinutol mula sa Davao.

Isang 40-foot container van na nasa bahagi na ng Pier 16 ang sorpresang ininspeksiyon ng mga awtoridad dahil sa hinalang kontrabando ang laman­ nito, sa bahagi ng Manila South Harbour.

Nadiskubre na pawang “misdeclared” ang laman nito na itinuring na kontrabando dahil idineklarang coco lumber at bao (coco shell) ito nang ibiyahe ng hindi pa matukoy na consignee.

Patuloy pang iniimbes­tigahan ang nasabing kontrabando upang madetermina ang nasa likod ng pagpupuslit ng iligal na pinutol na kahoy.
