Cop shoots colleague in Munti
MANILA, Philippines - A Muntinlupa City policeman was charged with murder after he accidentally shot a colleague, with whom he has had differences, in their headquarters Monday night.
The case against Police Officer 2 Roberto Lanting was filed at noon yesterday after PO2 Ronald Natuel died while undergoing treatment at the Medical Center Muntinlupa, city police chief Superintendent Eleazar Matta said.
According to Matta, Natuel was about to go home when he and Lanting saw each other. “They challenged each other. It’s senseless,” he said, adding that the two men’s colleagues tried to stop them.
Matta said Lanting and Natuel had been at odds since 2008 over what he called “away bata (quarrel among children).” He said Lanting would often tease Natuel by calling him “iyakin (crybaby).”
