MANILA, Philippines – The mangled body of a woman aged around 70 years old was discovered along Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City before dawn yesterday, the second victim of a hit-and-run in as many days.
Another woman aged around 60 to 65 years old was run over four times along Mindanao Avenue, also in Quezon City, also before dawn yesterday.
“We received information through Patrol 117 around 4:40 a.m. We didn’t even know we were looking at human flesh until we found the hands,” said Senior Police Officer 4 Nelson Apostol.
He said the old woman did not have any identification documents on her and her clothes were ripped to shreds. Apostol said that based on the state of the remains, more than one vehicle had run over her body.
He said a speed limit of 60 kilometers per hour imposed along Commonwealth Avenue had significantly reduced the number of accidents on the so-called “killer highway,” although motorists sometimes violate the speed limit during the wee hours of the morning.
Apostol said those who may have missing relatives may come to Prime Funeral Homes to identify the body.
The Quezon City Police District–District Traffic Enforcement Unit is still looking for possible witnesses to the incident.
