1 dead, 2 hurt in EDSA bus heist
MANILA, Philippines - A passenger was killed while two others were injured after a northbound bus was robbed by two unidentified men along EDSA in Quezon City yesterday afternoon.
Police identified the slain victim as Alnajashy Agaa Camlian, 28, while the injured were named as Evelyn Tutanes and Roseann Cruz, 22.
The victims were taken to MCU Hospital where Camlian died while being treated for a gunshot wound in the body.
Tutanes sustained a gunshot wound on the shoulder fired by a male passenger, Richard Lopez, who introduced himself as a policeman. The same bullet that hit Tutanes killed Camlian.
Police said a Precious Grace Transport Inc. bus (TXT-508) was on its way to Navotas when the robbery took place at around 2 p.m. yesterday.
The robbers, armed only with knives, pulled the heist near Corregidor street in Bago Bantay. Cruz told police she noticed a commotion at the back of the bus.
Lopez, seeing the suspects armed, drew his gun and shot at the robbers. He missed and hit Tutanes in the shoulder. The bullet went through and hit Camlian.
One of the robbers panicked and hit Cruz in the head with his knife before they jumped off the bus. Lopez chased the robbers, who ran towards Bago Bantay and were lost.
Police said the incident is under further investigation.
