2 shipping containers stolen in Malabon

- Pete Laude -

MANILA, Philippines - Two 20-foot shipping containers loaded with boxes of powdered beverage worth some P2.2 million were reportedly stolen in Malabon City.

Senior Inspector Jaime Desiderio, Malabon City police anti-car theft unit chief, said the containers were on a 40-foot trailer parked along Dagat-Dagatan Avenue in Barangay Longos when stolen Monday evening.

Truck driver Rucelino Feliciano, 28; and his helper Ronald Basa, 32; told the cops that they delivered the containers to a certain Welvin, their dispatcher, on Dagat-Dagatan Avenue. According to them, they were instructed by Welvin to return the following day to deliver the shipment to Pasig City.

When the duo returned at around 11 a.m. the next day with their truck to pick up the cargo, the trailer and the containers were nowhere to be found. The driver tried to contact Welvin to his mobile phone but to no avail.

Feliciano and Basa sought the help of the Malabon City police Anti-Carnapping Task Force Tuesday to locate the missing shipping containers but as of yesterday their efforts were futile. The local police formed a team, led by SPO1 Benedicto Zafra, to investigate deeper into the case and to track down the missing cargo and the dispatcher.
