Fire hits Caloocan electronic parts factory

- Pete Laude -

MANILA, Philippines - A fire of still unknown origin razed an electronics and audio equipment factory Wednesday noon in Caloocan City.

Fire Officer 4 Arvin David, of the Caloocan City fire department, said the Frontier 2000 Corp., owned by businessman Robert Lao, 53, was totally destroyed.

“According to Lao, while his workers were having their noon break, thick smoke engulfed their stock room that quickly spread to the whole factory,” David told The STAR.

David said the workers tried to save some of their equipment but were told by Lao not to push through, as the blaze was already all over the building.

Firefighters, led by Caloocan City fire marshal Superintendent Roel Diaz, used at least 30 fire trucks to put the fire under control at around 2:15 p.m.

As of noon yesterday, the fire was yet to be declared put out as it kept on “rekindling” because the building also contained plastic materials, David said.

He said nobody was reported injured in the blaze but property damage was estimated at P2.5 million.

City arson investigators were still trying to determine yesterday the exact cause of the fire.
