Doctors belie Ivler claim of bleeding wounds

MANILA, Philippines - Government doctors who examined Jason Ivler on orders of a Quezon City court found that his wounds were not bleeding, belying an earlier claim by the camp of the road rage murder suspect.

Superintendent Nestor Velasquez of the Quezon City Jail, quoting doctors at East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC), told the court that Ivler did not have bleeding from wounds in his stomach and back.

“No blood was noted from all these wounds,” Velasquez said in a compliance filed before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 219 dated Nov. 19.

Dr. Glomar Malana of the EAMC was Ivler’s attending physician during his checkup on Nov.15 when Judge Bayani Vargas ordered Ivler’s medical checkup after the suspect claimed his wounds were bleeding.

Malana stated in the medical certificate: “normal looking proximal end colostomy, normal looking distal mucus fistula.”

Ivler has a pending request for the court to allow him to undergo surgery to reverse his colostomy, which allows him to defecate only through a bag and not through his anus. 

His mother, Marlene Aguilar-Pollard, also wrote Vargas a letter dated Oct. 21, asking Vargas to allow Ivler to get proper medical attention.

“We are running out of time. If he is not treated soon, it will be too late. So I beg of you to please do what is right and protect the human rights of Jason,” she said.

Ivler is facing murder charges for allegedly killing Renato Victor Ebarle Jr. during a traffic altercation in November last year.

Ivler was wounded after he shot it out with agents of the National Bureau of Investigation who arrested him last January.
