MANILA, Philippines - A fish vendor who rooted for Mexican boxer Antonio Margarito was stabbed dead by a Manny Pacquiao fan in Quezon City shortly after the Pacquiao-Margarito fight ended Sunday.
Victim Jerwin Lapareno, 28, died while being treated for two stab wounds in the back.
Police nabbed suspect, Samuel Mirasol, 31, also a fish vendor, at the Commonwealth Market.
Investigator PO3 Joselito Gagaza said the two were arguing heatedly while watching the bout in the storeroom of the Godeth Fish Dealer at the market.
Gagaza said the two men were reportedly arguing over how the fighters should have delivered their punches. He said the victim demonstrated his point by punching Mirasol in the stomach.
Mirasol resented this, grabbed a knife and stabbed Lapareno, Gagaza said. Lapareno was rushed to the FEU Hospital but died while being treated.
