SUV carrying P3-million cell phones, cash hijacked

- Reinir Padua -

MANILA, Philippines - A sport utility vehicle carrying some P2 million worth of cellular phones and almost P1 million in cash was hijacked in Quezon City Saturday night.

Rashdy Ali and his wife Fatima Tumawis complained to the police about the loss of the white Toyota Fortuner (NIR719) during the incident that happened at around 9:30 p.m. along P. Tuazon Boulevard in Barangay Kaunlaran.

Investigator Police Officer 2 Vicben Padua said the suspects also took off five boxes containing P2 million worth of cellular phones and P950,000 in cash that were inside the Fortuner.

According to the police, there were at least five armed men involved in the carjacking incident.

The male suspects reportedly used a maroon Toyota Vios with unknown license plates.

Padua said the suspects were mostly armed with handguns while one of them carried an M-16 rifle.

Ali was driving the Fortuner which had three other passengers on board. The group was on their way home when the vehicle’s path was blocked by the suspects’ Vios.

Armed men started getting out of the sedan and, at gun point, ordered the passengers of the Fortuner out.

The suspects then commandeered the SUV towards the direction of EDSA.

Padua said that based on the sketchy report of the complainants, one of the passengers of the Fortuner was injured in the incident. But it was not clear who among them was injured and how it was sustained.
