Quezon City to honor 12 outstanding citizens

MANILA, Philippines – The Quezon City government will confer awards to 12 outstanding citizens, including President Aquino and Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., and six organizations tomorrow, coinciding with the city’s 71st founding anniversary.

Mr. Aquino, who is a guest of honor, has been chosen as one of the city’s most outstanding citizens.

The other individual awardees are: House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte (most outstanding individual and Heritage awardee as former mayor); former Vice President Teofisto Guingona; Department of Transportation and Communication Secretary Jose de Jesus; Commission on Higher Education chairwoman Patricia Licuanan; musician and composer Ryan Cayabyab; impersonator and comedian Willie Nepomuceno; actress and Mowelfund executive director Maria Elisa “Boots” Anson-Roa; Ayala Land Inc. president Antonino Aquino; Fairview General Hospital founding president Dr. Hermogenes Jarin; and centenarian Silvina del Carmen Laya.

Awardees for most outstanding organizations are: ABS-CBN and GMA Network; Mercury Drug Corp.; Philippine Heart Center; Philippine Tuberculosis Society, Inc., and Jose Abad Santos Memorial School.

Mayor Herbert Bautista will lead the awarding ceremony.
