MANILA, Philippines – A five-year old boy died Saturday night after drowning in a swimming pool at a Quezon City condominium while playing with his siblings.
Police Officer 3 Modestino Juanson said Maxel de Santos saw her son, Raphael, at the bottom of the swimming pool at Vivida Condominium in Barangay West Fairview at around 2 p.m..
The mother said she jumped into the pool, pulled the boy out, and tried to revive him using cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The boy was rushed to the FEU Hospital but died while being treated that night.
The boy’s father, Manuel, told police that the family operates a canteen near the pool. According to Juanson, the pool was three to six feet deep but there was no lifeguard or any adult looking after the children at the time of the incident.
Manuel said he last saw his son alive at around 1 p.m. while the latter was with his three other older children, aged nine, seven, and six years.
