MANILA, Philippines - A suspected vigilante shot dead a robber who was being beaten by a mob over the weekend in Tondo, Manila.
Neither the vigilante nor the robber have been identified, police said.
Police said the victim was chased by a mob after he snatched a cellular phone from a person along Road 10 near Capulong street in Tondo Saturday night. When he was cornered, the robber was lynched by a group of angry residents but the timely arrival of barangay tanods saved him from further harm.
While being brought to the barangay hall, the robber was again mobbed by another group of men who tried to seize him from the tanods. It was during the commotion that a man reportedly fired a shot at the robber’s head. The victim was rushed to the Gat Andres Bonifacio Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
