MANILA, Philippines - Makati Mayor Jun-Jun Binay urged yesterday city residents to be vigilant against illegal gambling.
Binay said city residents can notify his office through the city’s regular Sunday program aired from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. over AM Station DWIZ called “Radyo Makati.”
“We urge our residents to immediately report to us illegal gambling operations in their barangays so that we can effectively stop them,” Binay said.
Binay said calls and text messages from residents and even non-residents listening to the program are regularly compiled and submitted to the office of the mayor with copies furnished to concerned city offices and departments that are required to act promptly on complaints or issues raised. He earlier ordered Makati City Police Chief Senior Superintendent Froilan Bonifacio, to lead the campaign against illegal gambling.
Residents reported to the office of the mayor that illegal gambling activities are widely operated in some barangays in the city. “We do not tolerate any form of illegal gambling in our city. We are prepared to impose stiff sanctions on those who are caught engaging in such activities, be they operators, players or protectors and errant residents and policemen alike will be punished,” Binay said.
Binay also ordered Bonifacio to exhaust all means to be able to pinpoint those behind illegal gambling in the City, especially those in the police force.
