MANILA, Philippines - The son of former Isabela Governor Benjamin Dy is facing homicide charges after figuring in a deadly vehicular accident in Taguig City before dawn yesterday.

Police said Bernard Dy’s Toyota Camry (ZKZ-625) collided with a motorcycle driven by Ariel Cruz of the Philippine Airlines in front of the Philippine Marines headquarters along Lawton Avenue at around 2 a.m.

Cruz died while undergoing treatment at the Taguig-Pateros Hospital, said Senior Inspector Fernando Lipata, head of the Taguig Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU).

Dy is also a nephew of incumbent Isabela Gov. Faustino Dy III and Rep. Napoleon Dy.

His car reportedly bore an “8” congressional protocol plate, issued only to members of the House of Representatives. Lipata, however, could not confirm the report.

Police said Dy was driving on the left side of the road when his car hit Cruz’s motorcycle. Lipata said the right portion of the road was temporarily closed and poorly lighted.

Lipata said charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide will be filed against the businessman.

Dy’s lawyer, Beng Sardillo, told The STAR that they might post bail today. She said her client will take full responsibility for the incident. Dy is currently detained at Taguig’s TEU headquarters.
