Maynilad hikes Putatan treatment plant capacity

- Rhodina Villanueva -

MANILA, Philippines – The Maynilad Water Services Inc. has increased the water production capacity of its treatment plant in Barangay Putatan in Muntinlupa, from 25 million liters per day to 50 MLD.

Maynilad’s Corporate Affairs Office said the additional capacity has enabled Maynilad to serve around 9,400 households more in Barangays Putatan, Ayala Alabang, Poblacion, and Tunasan in Muntinlupa.

The facility was initially able to produce 25 MLD of potable water that benefited around 4,600 households. With the increase in capacity, Maynilad now supplies clean and affordable water to some 14,000 households in Muntinlupa.

The West Zone concessionaire’s Putatan plant is the first water treatment facility that taps into Laguna Lake as an alternative water source to the Angat Dam in Bulacan.

The facility reportedly uses a three-stage process to turn the water of Laguna Lake into water that passes the Philippine national standards for drinking water. These stages include dissolved air flotation, microfiltration and reverse osmosis. Chlorine is also added to disinfect the water and ensure that it is fit for human consumption.

Before the year ends, the Putatan treatment plant is expected to produce 100 MLD to serve more communities in Muntinlupa, and residents in Las Piñas and portions of Cavite as well.

The facility is reportedly part of Maynilad’s plan to develop alternative sources of water to ensure long-term water security for its customers.
