NBI rescues 33 women from human trafficker

- Sandy Araneta -

MANILA, Philippines - The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) rescued 33 women, mostly minors, from two suspected human trafficking dens in Las Piñas City yesterday morning.

Dante Bonoan of the agency’s anti-human trafficking division said in a press conference that the women were recruited from the provinces to work in Kuwait as domestic helpers by a suspect arrested by the NBI.

The women and the suspect are in the custody of the NBI.

Bonoan refused to give further details, including the name of the suspect and where the women came from, saying disclosing the information would violate Republic Act 9208 or the anti-trafficking in persons law.
