MANILA, Philippines - A fire of still undetermined origin razed the University of the Philippines’ administration building in Diliman, Quezon City Sunday night.
Fire officials said the ground floor of the four-story building, also called the Quezon Hall, particularly the Human Resources and Development Office, was destroyed in the 20-minute fire. Damage to property was initially placed at P100,000.
The Quezon Hall is easily one of the most identifiable buildings in the Diliman Campus. A replica of the famous Oblation, a masterpiece of National Artist Guillermo Tolentino created sometime in 1935 and the iconic symbol of the university, stands in front of the building.
Records show the fire broke out at around 9 p.m. Classes were not affected as the building only houses the university’s administrative offices.
