Slain man linked to heists by motorbike-riding robbers

MANILA, Philippines – A suspected carjacker slain in a shootout with a Malabon policeman in Sampaloc, Manila Saturday night was also a suspect in a series of robbery perpetrated by riding in tandem suspects, the Manila Police District (MPD) said yesterday.

Randy Olivo, 24, reportedly a younger brother of a Manila policeman, was in the MPD’s list of wanted persons and allegedly participated in robbing and killing a seaman in Malate, Manila on June 17.

Olivo died of a gunshot wound in the back after reportedly trading shots with Police Officer 1 Sherwin Casauran, detailed at the Malabon police station.

In a report by PO3 Rommel del Rosario, Olivo and his three companions took at gunpoint a Yamaha motorcycle (8710-TQ) driven by Aldwin Pedralez, with Desiree Macugay as his backrider, along Geronimo street in Sampaloc at past 10 p.m.

The commotion was noticed by Casauran, who was passing by. Casauran ordered the three suspects to surrender. The suspects sped away, and Olivo reportedly shot at Casauran while driving Pedralez’s motorcycle.

Casauran fired back and hit Olivo, who lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a six-year-old girl, who was then playing in front of her house.

The child and Olivo were rushed to the Ospital ng Sampaloc, where the suspected died. The child was sent home after being treated.
