Man killed in pre-dawn heist

MANILA, Philippines - Robbers killed a man who resisted when they tried to grab his bag in Caloocan City at past midnight yesterday.

Police Officer 2 Edgar Manapat said Joseph Chua, 21, and his girlfriend, Catherine Quiling, had just come out of a computer shop and were walking home when they were accosted by two men along L. Nadurata street on 8th Avenue.

The men grabbed Chua’s bag, but the victim fought back. One of the robbers shot Chua with a handgun and took his bag before fleeing.

Quiling rushed Chua to the President Diosdado Macapagal Memorial Medical Center but the victim died on the way at around 2 a.m.

Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen, Caloocan City police acting chief, directed his men yesterday to hunt down and arrest the robbers.
