- Jose Rodel Clapano -

MANILA, Philippines - Fourteen jeepney passengers were injured after the jeepney they were riding lost its brakes and bumped into two passenger buses in Parañaque City yesterday morning.

Police said the victims were rushed to the San Juan De Dios Hospital in Parañaque for treatment.

The driver of the jeepney (NYU-243) plying the Baclaran-Paliparan route, identified as Erick Silvano, 28, surrendered to the police after the incident.

Senior Police Officer 2 Cris Deluz of the Paranaque Traffic Enforcement Unit said Silvano was driving the jeepney along Macapagal Boulevard at around 10:30 a.m. on his way to Paliparan when he realized that the vehicle’s brake was not working.

Police said the jeepney then bumped into a Miami bus driven by Renato Afan, 44, and a Del Carmen Transit bus.

Police are readying charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to properties against Silvano, who has been detained at the Paranaque police station.
